Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Guapital

Getting Started

What is Guapital?

Guapital is a privacy-first net worth tracker designed for tech workers aged 24-35. We help you track all your assets in one place—traditional accounts, crypto wallets, and manual entries like real estate or vehicles. No budgeting features, no shame—just clear, accurate wealth tracking.

How is Guapital different from Mint or Monarch?

Unlike traditional budgeting apps, Guapital focuses exclusively on net worth tracking. We offer first-class crypto integration, percentile rankings (see how you compare to peers), and FIRE trajectory planning. We're wealth-focused, not budget-focused. Plus, we're significantly cheaper at $7.99/month vs Monarch's $14.99/month.

Do I need to connect all my accounts?

No. You can start with manual entry on the free tier. Add Plaid-connected accounts or crypto wallets whenever you're ready. Mix and match based on your comfort level.

Account Connections

What is Plaid?

Plaid is a secure banking infrastructure provider used by Venmo, Robinhood, and thousands of other apps. When you connect accounts through Guapital, Plaid handles the secure connection to your bank. We never see your banking credentials.

Which accounts can I connect?

You can connect checking, savings, credit cards, investment accounts, 401(k)s, IRAs, mortgages, and most US-based financial institutions through Plaid. For crypto, we support Ethereum, Polygon, Base, Arbitrum, and Optimism wallets via Alchemy.

What if my bank isn't supported by Plaid?

You can manually enter account balances and update them whenever you want. Manual assets work for any account type, including international accounts, private investments, or collectibles.

How often do accounts sync?

Plaid-connected accounts sync automatically via webhooks whenever your bank reports changes (typically daily). Crypto wallets sync on-demand when you visit your dashboard. Manual assets update only when you edit them.

Can I disconnect accounts later?

Yes. Go to your Accounts page, click on any account, and select "Remove Account." For Plaid items, you can disconnect all accounts from a specific institution at once. Your historical data is preserved.

Security & Privacy

How do you keep my data secure?

We use bank-level encryption (AES-256 at rest, TLS 1.3 in transit), secure authentication (OAuth 2.0), and row-level security policies. Your data is hosted on Supabase's SOC 2 compliant infrastructure. We also run regular security audits and automated backups.

Can you access my bank accounts?

No. We can only read account balances and transaction history through Plaid. We cannot move money, make transfers, or access your banking credentials. Plaid uses read-only API connections.

Do you sell my data?

Never. We're a paid subscription service—our revenue comes from users, not advertisers or data brokers. Read our Privacy Policy for full details.

Do I need to share my private keys for crypto?

No. You only provide your public wallet address (the same address you'd share to receive payments). We use Alchemy's API to read token balances—we never store or request private keys.

What happens to my data if I cancel?

If you cancel your Premium subscription, you'll downgrade to the Free tier. Your data remains accessible with Free tier limits (30-day history, 2 crypto wallets max). If you delete your account entirely, we permanently delete your data within 30 days.

Pricing & Subscriptions

What's included in the Free tier?

Unlimited manual assets, up to 2 crypto wallets with auto-sync, 30-day history, and a preview of your percentile ranking. Perfect for getting started or light users.

What do I get with Premium?

Unlimited Plaid-connected accounts, unlimited crypto wallets, 365-day history, full percentile rankings, transaction categorization, reports/analytics, CSV exports, and priority support. All for $7.99/month or $79/year.

What's the Founding Member tier?

The first 500 users who sign up get lifetime access to Premium for $69/year (locked in forever). Once we hit 500 founding members, this tier closes permanently.

Can I switch between monthly and annual billing?

Yes. Go to Settings → Billing to change your subscription plan anytime. If you switch from monthly to annual, you'll get prorated credit for your remaining monthly time.

Do you offer refunds?

Yes. If you're not satisfied within the first 30 days, contact support for a full refund. After 30 days, we handle refunds on a case-by-case basis.

Percentile Rankings

How do percentile rankings work?

If you opt in, we compare your net worth to other Guapital users in your age bracket. We blend our real user data with Federal Reserve Survey of Consumer Finances (SCF 2022) benchmarks to ensure accuracy, especially for newer age groups. As each bracket reaches 1,000+ users, we transition to 100% real user data.

Is my exact net worth shown to others?

No. Your net worth is 100% private. Only anonymized, aggregated statistics (medians, percentiles) are used. No user can see another user's exact net worth.

Do I have to opt in?

No. Percentile rankings are completely optional. You must explicitly opt in through the Percentile Rankings card on your dashboard. You can opt out anytime.

What age brackets do you use?

We use 3-year brackets aligned with the Federal Reserve SCF: 18-20, 21-23, 24-26, 27-29, etc. You select your age bracket once when opting in—we don't collect your exact birthdate.

Can I see how I'm trending over time?

Yes. Premium users can view their percentile rank history and see if they're moving up or down over time (coming soon).

FIRE Trajectory

What is FIRE Trajectory?

FIRE stands for Financial Independence, Retire Early. Our Trajectory feature projects when you could reach financial independence based on your current net worth, monthly contributions, and expected investment returns. It's a goal-setting tool, not financial advice.

How accurate are the projections?

Projections use historical market averages (7% annual return) and your inputs. They're hypothetical scenarios, not guarantees. Markets fluctuate, and your actual results will vary. We recommend updating your assumptions periodically.

Can I customize my FIRE number?

Yes. Go to the Trajectory page and set your target annual spending in retirement. We calculate your FIRE number using the 4% rule (25x annual expenses). You can also adjust expected return rates and contribution amounts per account.

Troubleshooting

My Plaid connection failed. What now?

First, check if your bank's website is down or if you've changed your password recently. Try reconnecting via the Accounts page. If the issue persists, contact support—we'll help you troubleshoot or manually add the account.

My crypto wallet isn't syncing.

Make sure you've entered a valid Ethereum address (starts with 0x). We currently support Ethereum, Polygon, Base, Arbitrum, and Optimism. Bitcoin and Solana support is coming soon.

My net worth looks wrong.

Double-check that all accounts are marked correctly as assets or liabilities. If you accidentally marked a credit card as an asset instead of a liability, your net worth will be inflated. Edit the account type on the Accounts page.

I'm not seeing my transactions.

Transactions are a Premium feature. If you're on Premium and still not seeing them, make sure your Plaid accounts are connected and synced. Transactions typically appear within 24 hours of syncing.
